The Refugee Experience

What is it like to be a refugee? Why do people come to the UK? What do asylum seekers get? Where do refugees come from? Do I know any refugees? Since 2002, RETAS has been working with schools, community groups and colleges to raise awareness about the reality of life in the UK for refugees and asylum seekers. These sessions give recipients insight into the asylum process by focussing on personal stories and firsthand  experience, as well as addressing  common myths and misconceptions. At every session an asylum seeker or refugee will share their story and experiences of coming to the UK and life in this country. We seek to highlight the courage of refugees and asylum seekers as well as what they can contribute to UK  society.

Who for? We have delivered sessions in schools, colleges, community groups, statutory organisations and youth   services. Sessions can be tailored to any age group (7+) and any sized group (including large assemblies).

How much? We don’t want cost to be prohibitive. Please call RETAS to discuss costs, subsidies and FREE sessions.

What is RETAS? RETAS is a frontline organisation  helping refugees and asylum seekers overcome barriers in accessing education and employment and assisting them to reach their potential. RETAS also works to empower     refugees to advocate for themselves.

“The open eyed attentive silence that was observed during the two sessions   delivered to over 100 pupils was remarkable… many sacrificed their break to continue to talk with the RETAS staff… it was a fantastic presentation.”

“I found your talk inspiring, I learnt a lot and you really changed my point of view. Before the talk, I heard from other people that refugees were just illegal and wanted to take over our country…”
