Training

RETAS loves to support other organisations with training and awareness raising sessions. The content and delivery of training is flexible and can be easily tailored. This is what we can offer:

The Refugee Experience

What is it like to be a refugee? Why do people come to the UK? What do asylum seekers get? Where do refugees come from? Do I know any refugees?

  • This session looks at what a refugee is, where they come from, how they get here and why they are here as well as what happens in the UK—the asylum process? Interactive games also show difficulties in integration and barriers they face in the UK. In addition, to give a real experience, an asylum seeker or refugee will also share their experience and journey during the session.
  • Who for: Schools, colleges, community groups, organisations wanting to work with refugees on a voluntary basis through CSR.
  • Cost: Please contact us regarding costs, subsidies and free sessions are available. This session can be adapted to be 1-3hours.

‘The open eyed attentive silence that was observed during the two sessions   delivered to over 100 pupils was remarkable… many sacrificed their break to continue to talk with the RETAS staff… it was a fantastic presentation’

Employing Migrants:

Do you know the different requirements for employing A8 migrants and A2 migrants? Is it legal to employ a refugee? Can international students work in the UK?

  • This half-day session will provide an overview of legalities of employing people from all over the world as well as their rights and entitlements, including: European, A8 and A2 migrants, the Points System, international students, refugees and asylum seekers and working holiday.
  • Who for: All employers, HR managers and people involved in recruitment
  • Cost: £300 for a half day. Maximum 20 attendees.

Rights and Entitlements of Refugees and Asylum Seekers:

Do you know the difference between a refugee and an asylum seeker? How many of them are in the UK? Can Asylum Seekers go to university? What type of ID do refugees have?

  • As well as a detailed explanation of the asylum process, this session looks at barriers faced by refugees and asylum seekers and current information around entitlements of refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Who for: Advice and guidance workers, career advisers, employees of colleges, universities, the public sector and third sector organisations.
  • Cost: £300 for a half day. Maximum 30 attendees.
