What we do

RETAS aims to help refugees and asylum seekers intergrate in West Yorkshire. We work on the frontline, offering support to refugees and asylum seekers, as well as offering training and sessions to organisations, companies, schools and services, to give them a better understanding of refugee and asylum issues.

For refugees and asylum seekers:

All new clients should come for an assessment at RETAS. Assessments are every Friday 10am – 12noon, at the RETAS Leeds office. No appointments are needed.
If we think that RETAS can help you, RETAS advisers and trainers can help with the following services:

  • The Jobsearch Skills course: preparing you for employment
  • The Empowerment course: training in integration, confidence and advocacy
  • IELTS: International English Language Testing System
  • Reaching Higher: a one-day workshop about applying to university
  • 1to1 advice and guidance: individual support helping you find and apply to the right training, education and employment.
  • NARIC: Finding out what qualifications from other countries are eqivalent to in the UK
  • Professionals support: Study groups, advice and requalification support for refugee teachers, doctors and financial professionals

For other organisations:

RETAS loves to support other organisations with training and awareness raising sessions. The content and delivery of training is flexible and can be easily tailored. This is what we can offer:

Refugees and asylum seekers: The Journey

  • This session looks at what a refugee is, where they come from, how they get here and why they are here as well as what happens in the UK—the asylum process? Interactive games also show difficulties in integration and barriers they face in the UK. In addition, to give a real experience, an asylum seeker or refugee will also share their experience and journey during the session.

Employing Migrants:

  • This half-day session will provide an overview of legalities of employing people from all over the world as well as their rights and entitlements, including: European, A8 and A2 migrants, the Points System, international students, refugees and asylum seekers and working holiday.

Rights and Entitlements of Refugees and Asylum Seekers:

  • As well as a detailed explanation of the asylum process, this session looks at barriers faced by refugees and asylum seekers and current information around entitlements of refugees and asylum seekers.
